Yesterday Brora Rangers were crowded Highland League champions with Mackay notching up a double and Ross Tokely getting the winner despite Keith keeper Daniel Bell being on great form to stop a bigger defeat against his former club.
Right at the final whistle, Brora celebrated in style with their supporters as they cracked opened a champagne bottle. Mackay has been a great leader in the Sutherland’s side and is also their top scorer.
Captain Steven Mackay insisted that he could have score more goals and is delighted to win the championship. “I feel fantastic and there was lots of expectation on the boys today but I’m glad we have come here and put in a solid performance. Also we have delivered on front of all of our fans. I scored two but to fairness I could have had four or five with the amount of chances I had.
He told Scottish Fitba base, “There is always an expectation to get the first goal early and Zander had a couple of chances. To see the ball hit the back of the net for my first goal was fantastic and the boys just kick on then that and its great. It’s probably a good pressure to be honest with you and the record we had today has been fantastic.
We were confident to come here and get the win.Joe Malin has kept his 19th or 20th clean sheet today. He has enjoyed playing in an important partnership with striker Zander Sutherland. “He’s the legs up top where I don’t and he’s tricky and how he gets away from opponents and creates loads of chances for me to be fair to him. My personal target is forty goals and for the group it’s to win our next four games. It’s been great the fans have turn out in their numbers to all of the away games”.
