Martin Laing is different to other football players that fall from grace

Many players have experienced the different impact of dropping from the Scottish Premier League to the lower leagues which can sometimes improved them as a footballer or sends them out of the game.

For Martin Laing it was culture shock coming from Inverness Caley Thistle to Clachnacuddin however he has been great for the Highland League side despite having to travel north from where his university studies are in Aberdeen. Not all players would show that kind of dedication to their football club if they have to travel that long distance.

Now he’s playing for Inverurie Locos on a two in a half-year deal and certainly has been a great addition to the Aberdeenshire’s hard-working side. His creative play is magically and will be a massive lose for Clach. He’s got the ability to have another crack at the professional and you may see with Locos in League Two soon you never know or with other football league clubs.

Remarkably recently I heard that the midfielder had scored four goals in six minutes against Strathspey Thistle which must be a Highland League record in some way.

The humble creative footballer doesn’t get the praise he deserves for doing his talking on the pitch.

He got the brilliant opportunity to play with top players such as Richie Foran and Grant Munro during his spell at Caley which gave some experience to his game.

Let’s hope that Martin get another cracker at going back into the professional game which he definitely deserves for his hard work. For me he will be on my list of the best midfielders in the league and is an early Christmas present for Locos which they need to take full advantage of or someone will come in and swoop away with him like an eagle.
