Golspie Stafford will see the magical return of arguably the best striker they have had at the club who is Aaron Smith.
The striker featured in a few games at the beginning of last season in which he bagged some crucial goals including the dramatic injury time winner away to Tongue. Midway through the season Stafford were third in the league and still well in contention for the league title.
However, when Aaron made himself unavailable the club lost their top goalscorer which shattered their title dreams. His experience and vocal nature on the pitch was especially missed. As a result, Stafford finished 2nd bottom in the league.
Aaron is a local who played for Ross County during his late teens and was an unused sub during Neale Cooper’s reign at the Highlanders. After County released him he went on to play for Highland League side Brora Rangers for a number of seasons. Then he joined his current club Golspie Stafford. Smith has been a key player at Stafford and has won eleven league titles with the Sutherland team.
Club official Calum Rayburn was over moon when he heard this brilliant news. “We are delighted to have Aaron back to full fitness and are confident he will return to scoring ways”.The 38-year-old has decided to put the boots back on and commit himself fully to the Sutherland club. Last season he missed the second half of the season due to him being no longer match fit.
Aaron Smith’s return has given Stafford a major boost for the coming season. The question surrounding the club will be can they put last season behind them and win the title this season?
