Nairn County Season review

Nairn County have had a poor season with them finishing 8th in the league. They were knocked out of the North of Scotland cup in the 1st round to Forres Mechanics on penalties and crashed out of the semi final of the League Cup to Wick Academy who defeated them 2-1. Nairn County’s manager Les Fridge will look to build on this quite disappointing season with the club losing to lower positioned teams such as Lossiemouth and Buckie which was the catalyst to affect their success. To be fair they had a hard round of games at the beginning of the season.

One of the positives County have is Martin MacDonald celebrates his testimonial year and will be rewarded with a match versus Aberdeen. Another is many of County’s players have signed new deals Glenn Main, Adam Naismith, Bradley Halsman, Sean Webb, Calum Antell and John Cameron. It’s has been one of the toughest Highland League seasons for them however next year it will be even more. As Formartine have been busy bees signing players and Brora Rangers have strengthened more.

Star player = Glen Main has been great this season with his creative movement causing defences all sort of problems.

Player to watch next season = The young talented goalkeeper Calum Antell has great potential and I look forward in seeing him playing even better.

Prediction for next season = I predict Nairn will finish in 5th as they will improve on last season. But with the strength of Formartine and Turriff will make it extremely difficult for them to finish in the top three along with the form Cove Rangers have been on.
