Formartine sign ex-Motherwell midfielder Lawson

When it was announced today that Highland League side Formartine United had signed former Motherwell and Ross County player Paul Lawson. Lawson has also played for StJohnstone, St Mirren and Celtic. Twitter was rocking with different opinions across the board and he will join former team mate Richard Britain into the Highland League as Britain signed for Brora Rangers.

These players will be battling each other in the next campaign as the two sides are looking to go for the league title. The 31-year-old was released by Motherwell this summer after an injury hit season and he will be the stand out name in the team and is Kris Hunter’s 13th signing.

Below are some responses to Lawson signing for Formartine.

@staggyjailender : “A sitting midfielder, has a range of passing. They should make him captain #leader.

@Icplmiller : “Could still play at a better level.”

@embogary : “ good luck to Paul, a gentleman and a great player”.

@macleod84 : “Can Defo still play at higher level. Good luck to him #staggies legend”

The signing of Paul Lawson for the Pitmedden side is a serious sign of intent that they want to mount a strong title challenge next season and push Brora Rangers to the end. Since, Kris Hunter has arrived in the hot seat he has been very busy in the transfer market building his squad with a number of players joining from rival clubs.

Which includes Scott Barbour who was reunited with his former boss at Fraserburgh earlier this summer. The striker is relishing the exciting opportunity of playing with the midfielder next season. “He is a brilliant signing for us and boosts our chances of challenging at the top of The league.”

Lawson is a great addition to the league and is believed to have snubbed a number of offers from SPFL clubs. The supporters of the league will be excited about seeing some top players such as Britain and Lawson. I can’t wait to see him play.
