Formartine United brushed aside Lossiemouth with an 8-2 victory and showed how subdivided the league is this season. Doubles from Paul Lawson, Scott Barbour and Stuart Anderson along with a goal by Graeme Rodger and Stuart Smith helped United to a convincing win.
A classy performance from Formartine got them their second crushing win in a row as last week they destroyed Deveronvale 8-1. Paul Lawson was a stand out player with him bagging two brilliant free kicks and his movement was unbelievable.
While Joao Rodrigues was unlucky to be on losing team with his silky movement and he had a number of powerful shots sadly saved by Andy Reid. If it wasn’t for Lossie’s keeper Connor Hall pulling off lots of tremendous saves United could have won by even more.
With only four minutes on the clock the first clear-cut chance of the game came with Scott Barbour striking the bar from close range. A minute later the deadlock was broken when Barbour cut inside and whipped the ball to unmarked Stuart Anderson at the back post who headed it home.
Soon after the away side doubled their lead due to a mix up between keeper Connor Hall and his defenders which led to the ball going straight to Barbour who chipped the ball over the keeper’s head. Then Lossie got a goal back with Ross Archibald being pushed down inside the box and referee Dan McFarlane awarded a spot kick. Kevin Flett calmly slotted the penalty into the net.
The Visitors made it 3-1 in the 15th minute with Paul Lawson curling a magical free kick into the net with Hall having no chance. Three minutes later Kris Hunter’s side struck again with Lawson swinging in a corner from the left hand corner which Stuart Smith was alert to poke the ball into the net.
Lawson proved to be deadly as his free kick was almost netted by Anderson but he was unlucky not to get a proper connection onto it.Clever vision from Barbour sent Gary Wood through on goal however his powerful shot was pushed away by Hall. Wood rushed in to thump the rebound which was cleared to safety.
Soon after the break Lawson stepped up to curl another delightful set piece into the back of the net to make it 5-1 for the visitors. Two minutes later Anderson let fly with a strike which flew into the net and was his second of the afternoon.Lossie’s Joao Rodrigues struck a wonder shot from long-range which Andy Reid tipped onto the bar and the ball dropped back down with it finally being gathered.
In the 65th minute Graham Rodgers smashed the ball into the net in a crowded area. Not long after the hosts got a second goal back when Rodrigues hit a powerful shot which Reid pushed into the path of on running Archibald who tapped the ball home. Again a piece of magic by Rodrigues as he chipped the keeper unfortunately for him the ball landed on the roof of the net. At the death Barbour fired the ball into the net from the edge of the box to send the travelling team home with their second convincing win in a row.
