Fort William 0-4 Cove Rangers

Cove added another win to their fine collection as they thrash a Fort William side who gave a great account of themselves at Grant Park in Lossiemouth. The goals came from Jamie Watt, Sam Burnett and a double from big striker Jonny Smith. Before the game, Cove needed 4 points to clinch the title.
After the 4-0 victory it means they only need one more point to win the title. Meaning that on Wednesday night when Cove play against Clach at Grant Street they could win the league with anything better than a loss.
The game started off the way Cove wanted as Jonny Smith played a superb ball through to striker Jamie Watt whose effort was well saved by keeper Douglas Maclennan.
Minutes later Cove broke the deadlock when the ball came into the box straight to Smith, he took a touch and smashed the ball into the net. Cove kept the pressure on Fort with chances coming from Jamie Watt and Smith both going wide of the target.
Cove doubled their lead when a brilliant ball from Connor Scully went straight to Watt’s feet for him to slot past the goalkeeper.
Fort were very lucky the match remained at 2-0 as John Sheran’s side hit the crossbar twice with striker duo Watt and Smith.
In the 44th minute midfielder Sam Burnett played a delightful pass to Jamie Watt who stuck the ball into the back of the net, only to be called offside by referee Chris Philips. However Fort did get a corner before half time which was beautifully played in but failed to get a header on target. Fort certainly were very glad to hear the half time whistle.
The second half started perfectly for Cove like the first. Just three minutes into the half Jamie Watt took the ball on a run and skipped past Fort defenders Andreas Bloomfield and David Moffat with ease and smashed the ball home passed a helpless Maclennan.
Fort were better this half by a country mile with some possession and good play in midfield with Munro and Chisholm putting the ball through to Stephen Rennie who failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
Not long after Cove added a fourth to the collection, with midfield Burnett taking the ball on a run and hitting a low drive from outside the box past Maclennan.
Overall a fantastic display by Cove who only need a point to clinch the league. One fan said “One more game to go, it’s ours to lose”
