Fraserburgh’s William West’s column

In his first column, Fraserburgh’s William West reflects on his team’s opening day victory over Strathspey Thistle and tells us who he thinks will win the title.

Saturday’s match started brightly with Paul Campbell winning a free kick on the edge of the Thistle area.

Dean Cowie stepped up to strike a powerful set piece which the keeper was able to save it. But fortunately for us it  landed at the feet of Marc Lawrence who’s gamble to follow in for the rebound paid off with an easy tap in.

We controlled the game well. But Strathspey did start to come into the game with a couple of good counter attacks.

Our new signing Greg Buchan from Deveronvale who started very well had to go off due to an injury. I came on and managed to convert a Ryan Cowie free kick to double the lead.

In the second half the heat got to both sets of players so the game was played at a slower pace than the first. There were chances at both ends of the park but thankfully Grant Noble was able to score a 20 yarder to seal the points.

Meanwhile it’s hard to predict who will win the league but I think it will be between last years top 3 again. Buckie and Huntly have definitely strengthened. While Wick and Locos will be there or thereabouts. It’s going to be a very competitive league. If I had to pick a team right now I would say Brora.

Here on Scottish Fitba Base William West exclusively writes for us with his thoughts on the Highland League and how his side is performing.
